Wolfmother 09.15.04
@ Pianos NYC Scene: random rainy remnants of Hurricane Ivan night at Pianos, but the storm was bellowing from inside well early on for such racket to be being made. The situation was this - Elkland had unfortunately cancelled their gig so with a gaping hole in the bill we were fortunately bequeathed with a performance by a band from down under that only the higher echelons of music powers that be had heard of let alone seen. On their last night in NYC, a trip that was lengthened by one night for this show, the three headed rock beast named Wolfmother blew away the 40 of us in that back room's collective understanding of what rock is today and in the near future. Summarative quote: Pianos manager outside after hearing first song, "I thought Led Zeppelin broke up." Oh yes, but like Floyd with the Secret Machines, their legacy lives and writhes and explodes on in Wolfmother like a Poltergeist phoenix that's absorbed all that's been between the 70's and now and spit it out in a transfigured sonic assault that is the pure definition of post-post-modern. wolfmother.com |
