@ Gramercy Theatre NYC I first heard about these guys in the Summer of '10 as they crossed the country on tour from LA and played their NYC show at Fontana's opening for one of the excellent Oh You Devil's residency shows. I regrettably wasn't shooting at the time - depression and all that - but I remember they sounded great and impressed the hell out of the thirtyish people fortunate and dedicated enough to be out at 8pm on a Wednesday night for a band they'd either never heard or heard very little of - sharp and piercing guitar work that cut clean through unabashedly poppy songs that sound like The Walkmen ripping and running through the Chateau Marmont. To see them again on the grand Gramercy stage was like being transported through a band career wormhole - I knew it was the same guys up there playing a lot of the same songs in pretty much the same way, but in the context of the brighter lights and louder speakers and much larger crowd they boys were the epitome of potential fulfilled. An opening slot for The Airborne Toxic Event at Webster is in the offing for Cinco de Mayo - BIGGER and BIGGER things keep happening now, wholly appropriate for a band who's sound is magisterial enough to carry the weight. voxhaulbroadcast.com |
