@ Mercury Lounge NYC Erin Marsz, lead chanteuse of The Hotcakes is one of those rare people - a combination of other out front blondes, Debbie Harry, Gwen Stefani, and Courtney Love - who you just know is a star. Sure there are tons of gorgeous and talented people all over NYC, but not so many have that it that if it could be bottled would probably go for more than $100/gram. I've seen Erin in other bands and other incarnations of The Hotcakes for a few years, and now she and her band really seem to be hitting their stride. At this show, a celebration of the release of a new EP, she strutted and stalked the stage full of confidence that they've never been tighter or had better songs. More than one person has made the Blondie comparisons - high praise indeed - but there's an element of naughtiness to their party music that's uniquely all them. thehotcakes.com |
