Switchblade 04.29.11 @ Fontana's NYC With all of the lights, colors, fog, and hair the only thing that could go through my mind watching Switchblade shred their brand of heavily-sharpened metal had to be Metalocalypse, although this was definitely more prog than death. Though given my druthers and gun to my head, I'd take Archers of Loaf over Anthrax, Pavement over Pantera, there's always something cathartic in bombing along the FDR Drive to Reign in Blood - a primal release you just can't get from the indie rock circuit and I'm sure they'd all agree. Switchblade is the kind of band we all wanted to be in when as youths that summer between 7th and 8th grade we heard that one older burnout butchering Iron Man out the window of his Suburban bedroom - before we knew that it was even possible to be in a band. It's that dark, scary, and endlessly exciting never-place that metal occupies and tries to fill and conquer, thereby will always have a place in the hearts and ears in the kids in all of us.
