Pela 10.14.03
@ Sin-e NYC So, I've figured out why Pela's already legendary demo is the best quality sounding of all demos floating around - nothing to do with the recording process or acoustics of the studio - it's cuz they're quite simply a really good fucking band! For a band to come out of basically nowhere (well, as nowhere as the City gets) to play this well, this fast - the only comparison I can draw is Ambulance Ltd - who are hurtling fast forward on the track to success - somewhere that Pela, if there is any righteousness left in the world - will be joining them pretty damn soon. When a band gets you on the first note, you know that they just get it - the it being what it takes to make good music. Pela's songs are wickedly driving majestic sonic journeys that fuse the best and most hopped up elements of shoegazer, prog, velvety underground, and superchunkiness without sounding like a derivative of anything. Plus - really impressive, they actually have fun(!) up there. As if the sheer joy that's at the heart of their songs can't help but leap and electrify eternal from their guitars, drum, and keys, and bodies and faces. Admittedly, I 99% tend to wax positive about the shows I see on here 'cuz I only photograph bands I like, but I can't stress enough how much of a treat this band is - and it'll be even more so seeing more and more people discovering them for themselves. pelamusic.com |
