Night Fevers 04.19.11
@ Gramercy Theater NYC In my Facebook post after they played, I said "Night Fevers opened - like Flaming Lips fucked The Strokes - worth checking out." I have to amend this in that I meant it in a purely visual sense - lead singer Jack Tangney is a dead ringer for She Don't Use Jelly era Wayne Coyne dressed as Julian Casablancas' red headed stepchild - all very good things as far as I'm concerned. Musically, there couldn't have been a better surprise table setter for this show. I kinda love it when a headlining band needs to add a fourth local band 'cuz they haven't sold enough tickets. Because, as in this case exactly, it gives a somewhat unknown to most buy should be known to more act a chance to really shine in a really really nice sounding venue. Practically bristling and crackling with all the energy of kids taking their chance by the proverbial balls and squeezing hard. These guys are what NYC rock can be and is becoming - unapologetically macho and dandyish at the same time with a driving danceable soundtrack to back it up. Night Fevers Facebook Page |
