Men and Whales 05.05.11 @ Fontana's NYC Kicking off their 3 week May residency, Men and Whales played it the only way they know how - with snap, crackle, and a lot of pop. I have to admit I was drawn to their name because of the seeming glut of whale-related items in the indie world: The Squid and The Whale, the ensuing Noah and The Whale, the always popular Fudgie The Whale, etc. But upon hearing their music I had visions of 1800's Japanese Eskimo fishermen in epic battles with monster sea monsters in the face of a tsunami with Weezer as their war songs, if that makes any sense. More simply they're a very good at what they do pop punk band that will probably slot right into a Warped Tour spot if they were willing. Tomorrow, May 12, they embark on the ambitious task of covering the sacred Abbey Road complete and in order and if their take on Come Together is any indication, it's going to be quite epic in it's own right. menandwhales.com |
