@ BAM Café Brooklyn One of the best aspects of living in a big City is that it can act like a time lapse machine where people pop in and out and random intervals and you can see how each of you has hopefully evolved or unfortunately sometimes declined. I first met and fell in love with Julia in 2005 when she sauntered in off of Ludlow St. into Pianos, collegiately fresh-faced , all bold sass and blonde dreads (killed me!) with her handwritten cd in tow. OF COURSE I gave her a gig on the spot and over the years would always crack a smile even when there was little to smile about in my life, when I saw that she was playing out, forming a band, filming videos, and making a name for herself. It’s one of the true and few pleasures of the music business, watching a talent become what she is. Over the years, I’d criminally never actually photographed her playing live, which after I saw her Facebook posting for this show, I decided to rectify this night at the fascist (no photography but we LOVE the arts) BAM Café. True to this narrative, she packed the place and had people actually dancing all over the place with her brand of what I’d call Americana Soul. juliahaltigan.com |
