Haley Bonar 12.03.03
@ Bowery Ballroom NYC Hmmm.... I'm having a hard time not waxing hyperbolic about the artist that Haley Bonar has become and continues to evolve into. Oh what the hell, might as well dive right in. Maybe it was the megawatt step up from the Knitting to Bowery spaces, or her hard-earned experience traversing the country earlier this year, or the fact that she's just growing up, and most likely its a combination of all of the above - but the strides she's taken in what was already an impressive stage presence and gorgeous songs was absolutely striking. Especially considering she's all of 21 years old, the command she holds over the crowd to the point that even whispers were too loud, with just herself, guitar, keys, and sometimes drummer is nothing short of remarkable. Like a modern day angelic Annie Oakley meets Patsy Cline meets Tori Amos on a cross-country train ride across the Northern Plains, through her songs she channels an uncluttered, serene, and innocent world where cowboys are cool and cowgirls are cooler and the skies are not cloudy all day. haleybonar.com |
