@ Drom NYC I've been a big fan of Kerry's since her halcyon days playing guitar in the dearly lamented Blue Sparks. So when she invited me to shoot her new band Ghostwise I was needless to say thrilled, especially after having missed her opening for Lucinda Black Bear a couple of weeks ago to watch the Royal Rumble (never any regrets for watching wrestling, mind you). Discovering a very decent - albeit ludicrously overpriced drinks venue - was a bonus as Drom has sorta transformed itself from a nebulous underground speakeasy to a very classy mini-Joe's Pub vibe of a place. And it unbelievable kitchen smells were suspiciously wafting around the whole time, providing a welcome distraction from the $12 Jameson I thankfully put off ordering. Kerry's band which includes Anton Sword and Nathan of the also lamented The Flesh is like an Ringo Starr's all-star band of what's left of the LES scene. The highlight for me was a Juliana Hatfield-esque rendition of The Replacements' Can't Hardly Wait. And how about that outfit! myspace.com/kerrykennedynyc |
