Dirty on Purpose 04.19.03 @ Williamsburg Publik House Brooklyn If Eric's Trip was was reincarnated as an NYC band in 2003, they'd be Dirty on Purpose. And, thanks to the Page Six of the indie world and the coolest French girl I know, I and a lot of other folks have become privy to the - the only way I can describe it is sick - sounds of DoP. Let me preface this by saying that they're anything but derivative, but sometimes the best way to describe a something is through relativity. Expanding on the best elements of other local kids done good like Calla, Interpol, Elefant, Longwave, and stellastarr*, the 5 members of Dirty on Purpose paint and chisel a sonic landscape that blazes a trail somewhere through shoegazer, electroclash, New Zealand, and Iceland. So fucking good are they that there were times during their set - the driving pseduo-bridge jam parts, where I got that little flood in the back of my brain - you know the one (just before uh, something, hits you) - and just stared in slack jawed bliss awash in sound that seemed like it hadn't been invented yet. As I've stated many a time on this site, now is such the time to be around the NYC scene, and thank Buddha that there are bands like Dirty on Purpose that prove that point a million times over.
