Dear Comrade 04.05.11
@ Fontana's NYC Unclassifiable! (just like that with the exclamation point) That was a word that kept going through my head as I watched my pal Arthur's great new band Dear Comrade for this first time. As the often shirtless drummer for stellastarr*, he didn't sing much or at all from what I could remember and obviously didn't play guitar and it was more than pleasant surprise to see how damn fine he is at both. Seeing him and the band play their songs live also breathed an electricity into them that doesn't come over on mp3. Their Facebook page describes them as "Morricone, meets Lennon, meets ABBA, meets New York, meets Eastern Block...". I love the Eastern Block part 'cuz Arthur's the only Lithuanian I know. I'd also throw in some Blondie, Dandy Warhols, and Fleetwood Mac on top of that smorgasbord of bands for good measure. Whatever you want to fruitlessly label them, Dear Comrade definitely leaves you satisfied and yet wanting more (that's what she said). dearcomrade.bandcamp.com |
