Carissa's Wierd 07.05.03
@ Knitting Factory NYC

Carissa's Wierd are pretty much a living, touring "Waking Life." Jenn Ghetto, Mat Brooke and company make music that sounds like the soundtrack for those early mornings where we wake up crying because we've dreamt of a huge loss and don't quite remember where sleep started and reality ended.

Songs About Leaving has been the soundtrack for my life since I saw them at this show - I listen to it everywhere on my way to places. It's my musical guardian angel - protecting me with it's haunting poignancy and devastating beauty from the overwhelmingly senses dulling reality of the daily grind before night time when life finally starts.

I mean, shit, reading this brings me right to the edge - just imagine hearing it, living it...

there's banging on the wall
its 5 a.m., I've got no sleep at all
course that's how I might struggle through tomorrow
too much time in one day
too much time to occupy
boring thoughts
and boring news
boring bedtimes
wont tell a single soul that my souls gone
