The Blake Babies 07.19.01
@ Maxwell's Hoboken In my pre-photography days, I saw some pretty AMAZING shows at Maxwell's - Oasis' first tour, Eric's Trip last show, Archers of Loaf, Babes in Toyland, Versus, even the JH3. Catching the Blake Babies there however, and with camera in tow, was something else altogether. Actually seeing a band that I had only dreamed and heard rumors about in a venue that tight and intimate was akin to being witness to a "divine intervention" as Jules Winfield would put it. Seeing the Blakes on this last chance reunion tour is something that I'll tell my kids and grandkids about, as I will the Oasis and Eric's Trip, and Weezer at The Stone Pony before they were huge shows. It's a shame that this band isn't and most likely never will be held in a more esteemed light by people more common than indie geeks. At least then, they'd be able to quit their day jobs.
