Annekei 03.07.11 @ Rockwood Music Hall NYC So, this is pretty amazing stuff - back in 2003, Annekei practically fresh off the boat from Denmark made it to the finals of Amateur Night at The Apollo. In that video, though obviously not polished and refined to the extent she is now, it's clear to see that even at such raw stages she had the pluck and soul to make it. I mean, blonde girl with a guitar solo at The Apollo? How scary is that? That was a bit before she honed her style and cut her teeth at Pianos where I met her and most every other club worth a damn in NYC. She's since carved a fine niche for herself here and an even finer one in Asia where she's practically Beyonce-esque from what I understand. To me, she's got a more Amel Larrieux thing going on, putting her own twist on Modern Soul that would make The Brand New Heavies proud. annekei.com |
